[04] Stevie Pays Tribute to Quincy Jones
Statement by Stevie Wonder from his Facebook page:

First, it was a scare a few months ago. But then it really happened… Q is gone. Of course, my heart is hurting. I’ve known Quincy Jones for most of my life. Not that I saw him everyday, but his presence from the moment I met him at 14 years old, when I came down the stairs at the Apollo Theater in New York, has always been with me. So, I celebrate all that he’s done in his life for not only me, but for all of us musicians, artists, producers and arrangers.
He’s done it all. He’s done it with and for the greatest. And yet, we’re lonely here without him. God Bless Quincy.
God Bless all of the angels in heaven that will be creating incredible music in the spirit of love because that is truly what makes the world go round. Rest in peace, Quincy. I love you with all my heart, but you know that. “As”... Quincy, I’ll be loving you always!

Music has always been the very thing that has brought people together, more than anything, and it’s a way of expression that you hear and you feel the vibrations and those vibrations turn into how and what you feel. And so I think that as much there have been so many things that have been written about, but at this time most importantly I think we have to have more love in it. We have a time where people have fallen too much in love with things, like social media and different platforms, things that raise our children, where I think we need to have as parents take more time to raise our children and not things, different opinions or conspiracy theories determine how our children think.”
He concluded by paying tribute to Gordy, “at the end of the day, the history and the greatness of Berry Gordy (will live on for) centuries and centuries into the future”.

Let us use the gift of love that we’ve been given by the Almighty to make a difference in the world. I’ve been blessed to be alive, but I’ve been blessed to see everyone — not seeing you physically — but seeing you spiritually. And what breaks my heart is to know that we’re still talking about the same thing that I heard you talking about when I was a little boy. What breaks my heart is that people talk about it … but are not about it,” Wonder said at the gala that ended early Sunday morning. “We write about it, we sing about it, the musicians play about it, we pray about it, but what we need to do is do about it. So I beg of you, those of you who can see what we’re doing to this planet, those of you that can see the anger in people’s faces, those of you that can hear the anger and the confusion that is on social media, those of you that feel that you have to follow those broken hearts, we as artists have to mend those hearts with love. We can stop and put an end and ask for all the nations of the world to have a truce and stop the fighting and begin to love. It’s not impossible.”
